The BBC's Interwar 'Talks' Experiment

Event Date:
Thursday, March 23, 2017 - 15:00
Event Location:
BLB 080

As part of Women's History Month, the Department of History, in co-sponsorship with the Women's & Gender Studies Program, and LGBT Faculty Network, is hosting Dr. Katie Hindmarch-Watson of John's Hopkin. Dr. Hindmarch-Watson will analyze how Hilda Matheson and other queer British media specialists used the BBC of the late 1920s and early 1930s to bridge the divide between elite bohemian sexual counter culture progressives and mainstream audiences. In a competition with more conservative broadcasting models, these queer mediators were foundational to BBC radio.

The talk will be preceeded by a meet and mingle from 1:15-2:45pm in the BLB lobby near the Starbucks.
