Filmmaker Michele Forman to lecture on "Women in Film"

Filmmaker Michele Forman will give a lecture on "Women in Film" on Thursday, October 25, 2012, at 11:00 AM in the EESAT Building, room 125. Michele Forman is Director of Visual Literacy and Co-Director of the Media Studies Program at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. In her presentation, Michele Forman will address the changing roles of women behind the scenes in the film industry and the impact on what audiences see on screen. How much does the growing presence of women as writers, directors, producers, and studio executives influence the representation of women and gender in film? From her experience working in feature film development to her work at University of Alabama at Birmingham teaching critical studies of women and gender in cinema, Michele will talk about the business model and culture of the film industry and link it to the aesthetics and genre conventions of women in cinema.
