Program Funding

A limited number of Graduate Assistanships are available for students based on program needs.

Teaching Assistants support undergraduate WGST courses (typically WGST 2100: Introduction to Women's and Gender Studies). They serve in an array of capacities: as a recitation leader of smaller, independent course sections and/or as a grader and tutor for larger courses under the direction and pedagogical mentorship of a faculty member of record. A professor or lecturer mentors graduate Teaching Assistants in both course content and instruction/grading skills.

Teaching Assistantships are available on a limited basis in the Women's & Gender Studies Program at UNT. The WGST program's staffing needs determine graduate assistant assignments.

All assistantships entail approximately 10 or 20 hours of work per week (based on position), supporting the delivery of WGST undergraduate courses (including direct course instruction, leading discussions, grading student coursework, holding office/tutoring hours, etc.).

Benefits of serving as a Teaching Assistant

  • Monthly stipend
  • Valuable teaching experience
  • Opportunity to work closely with program faculty

Requirements for Teaching Assistantship

  • All Teaching Assistants must maintain a minimum 3.0 gpa overall and during each semester.

If you are a currently enrolled student interested in an assistantship, please email the program director to ask for instructions about when/how to apply.  Generally, you should plan to provide the materials listed above.
