Dr. Carey Gibbons

Assistant Professor of Art History

Dr. Carey Gibbons is an Assistant Professor in UNT's Department of Art History with a focus on the history of illustration and graphic design. She is currently researching the work of women illustrators, including the Scottish illustrator Jessie Marion King, as well as the field of Victorian illustration, particularly Pre-Raphaelite representations of the body in relation to Victorian literature, science, and gender constructions. She is also interested in the relationship between women and design, intersections between science and visual culture, and nineteenth-century art and design. She is a member of the College Art Association Committee on Women in the Arts and the Digital Art History Editor for Nineteenth-Century Art Worldwide.

Her research interests include; the history of illustration and graphic design, Victorian art and design, women artists and designers, representations of gender in visual culture, the visual culture of science, digital art history.
